Forró in the Dark

One of the most popular musical genre in Brazil is Forró. And it has also became famous because since 2000 university students started to create Forró Parties all over Brazil.

Since 2002, six native Brazilian have been playing every wednesday at Nublu Club, in East Village.

According to [percussionist Mauro] Refosco, Forro is a happy, danceable music based on four elements: simple melodies, basic harmonies, driving rhythms and funny lyrics. These elements are traditionally performed by three instruments: a triangle, an accordion, and a zabumba, a drum pitched somewhere between a low snare and a small bass.

They play in a different way with elements of rock, folk, jazz, and country music. They have recorded with David Byrne, Bebel Gilberto and Seu Jorge!
